Smart Escalators
Escalators are everywhere, Malls, Cinema Halls, Airports, Train Stations,… Only Airports will have Escalators that are not “crowded”. Sometimes, there’ll be no one to take the escalator, but still the stairs will be rolling. Specially, in large international air terminals, you can witness this. Sometimes, even in Malls during the noon times.
How to save energy with these Escalators when there is no one to use it?

If people start using the stairs thinking that the escalators are not working, even then, you can save a lot of power (good for one’s health too if they use the stairs) ;) Jokes apart, a nice idea.

Good thinking. but i feel sensors are always a costly affair to integrate with wear n tear areas like this.
Sensor system works pretty well in TCars, TVs, Lolu , kind of electro mechnically operated areas.
if the sensors are ment only for start and stop simply we can provide a button and edcuate users to do so. ( i have seen this kind of approach in Toyato Japan and across japan as well ).
I know 2 * t is an ideal derviation which makes lot of difference when it comes to real-time.
rather i guess we can strongly use Solar stimulators and generate thermal energy while the escalators are running and fed back the generated energy back -battery generators or lights or what ever.
Just a thought and not an denial of your proposal. :)

Good idea guys!!
Adiya,
Why don’t you add your ideas to the Ideaxtŕeam wiki?
I think the wear and tear of sensors shouldn’t be much of a problem. Such sensors are commonly used for those sliding doors in the malls. The same could work with the escalators.
I’m just wondering if starting and stopping the heavy duty motor of the escalator frequently has any disadvantage.

Aparna,
Yep! Stairs is again a convenience. Instead, we could have some grooves & hooks on the walls, so that people can rock-climb to go to the upper floors! :D Okies! Jokes apart! Thanks! :)
Ponnarasi,
You have gone a step further to praise my thinking rather than the idea! :) thanks.

Adiya,
> sensors are always a costly affair to integrate with wear n tear areas like this.
You have a bad impression about sensors! :P Sensors are very reliable, you could found from Wii to Aircraft surfaces to Elevators to CPU cores…
> we can provide a button and edcuate users to do so.
You didn;t know? Japanese want every bloody thing to be automated. I have seen lavatories flushing water on you to clean the last remains that is sticking. :)
> 2 * t is an ideal derviation
2 * t is just an empirical value. Need to tune it for real world situations.
> Solar stimulators
I don’t get this conversion: solar -> thermal -> electrical :(
> Just a thought
My pleasure! :) Feel free to discuss.

Rahul,
> Why don’t you add your ideas to the Ideaxtŕeam wiki?
I think, there is lot of inhibition towards doing this. Because, all the ideas comes from me & editing it, makes people to feel guilty, I guess! :) From now on, I’ll publish the idea in this blog, after it is dicussed, I shall move it to the wiki. :) Hope this makes sense.
> stopping the heavy duty motor
Yea da. There is. Something like we need a large capacitance to create the required torgue, but shouldn’t be a problem. Leave escalators, think of elevators :) The answer lies there!

hey
yes. i am ok with ur concept that sensors are more matured. But sensors are not automated solution. means sensors are based on human event – reaction based model rather than a trained models. People are moving towards the AI based trained sensors. untill then providing sensors can be a hi-fi hook ups but definitely it will burn the cost.
a single chipped sensor in a Lexus car just to monitor thermal capacity levy you 1000-USD. “i am not saying sensors are not the solution” sensor tech is growing and we are in the age of Nano technology. i guess Nano Tech is the “Way to go” for all electro mechnical based approach.
comming to the last paragraph :::
we did a similar prototype long back just to get electrical energy from a Speed breakes. In a high volume roads assume 10 Vehicales passing a Speed break. we can use that pressure created in the Spread breaks for other conventional use. its all the same :)

Janitri,
Got scared? :P I’ll spare you for this. :)
Adiya,
Sensors are meant for automated solutions. :) You say a Lexus is priced +1000 USD just for this thermal sensor? Could you support your claim with some references? Because, I always thought, that most of the sensors come for cheap.
Great! You could used that pressure to run DC generators which would eventually power Traffic Lights & Street Lamps! Idea ya Adiya! >:O)

he those stats are just to explain you sensors are good, people are using but its kind of pretty old technology in compare to nano technology :) like iPod.
Well when u say automated means u perform some thing( Call Event A ) based on that it should execute series of steps. then i agree with you. but certain realtime thigns we need a trained automated systems. adhu dhaan solla vandhen not cribing for your idea. thats really good. :) chumma oru knowledge sharing dhan: )
