Beryl & Ubuntu on Fertile

A fewdays ago, I re-christened Mr. Fertile (my desktop), to Fertile. No No! It didn’t undergo any gender change, as you may think of! >:O) This is for these reasons:

  • Discrimination in any sense is sin.
  • There is nothing special with Fertile to justify its gender.
  • “Mr” appear more like initials. But there aren’t any. Shudn’t be a parody of someone called “Mr”.
  • Hostnames doesn’t allow dots. So I had to replace with an awkward underscore, which spoils the whole purpose.
  • Fertile, whether being male/female/clueless will be & is fertile.
  • Fertile’s friends, social networks & hangouts are genderfree. >:O)

Ok. Fertile after some initial hiccups, now runs Ubuntu Edgy. With projects such as EasyUbuntu, Linux has set-free from its Unix worlds. Play DVDs, MP3s, WMAs, DivX,… with a few clicks & an internet connection. Life in the Linux world has become so easy.

Running pirated copies of Windows is like allowing people to eat the food you prepare for their life time; that too for free & with no obligations! How does that sound? >:O) Being a software engineer & supporting/practising piracy is a blunder. If you have got money, buy a genuine copy of Windows. I hope you’ll have money to keep upgrading ur PC for every 3 years. The news is Windows Vista requires atleast 1 GB of RAM to run convincingly well, hold on, with the Aero interface switched off! It all boils down to our inability to open ourselves & adapt to the alternative systems. Think about it!

Ok. If you wanna some Vista like eyecandy in Ubuntu, there is a window manager called Beryl. Check this video:

I’m able to run flawless on a Intel 915g chipset with a Pentium4. Alt-Tabbing is so much fun thing to do. The windows behave like as if its made out of flubber! Gives Vista’s Aero like interface. Glassy looks. This is super cool. Try it out. It’ll be sexy on LCDs.

This is a ScreenShot of one of the themes:

Notice the glow & background blurs? >:O) BTW, its done with HW accelerated OpenGL. >:O)
