‘We’ll show you all of our data on the Red Lake mine online if you tell us where we’re likely to find the next 6 million ounces of gold. The prize: a total of $575,000, with a top award of $105,000′. This was an open challenge made by a gold mining company, GoldCorp Inc. Facinated by the OpenSource model, the datas related to their mines were made open. Rob McEwen, GoldCorp CEO, is the brooder of this idea. Read more at http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/59/mcewen.html
I agree that people in Fractal Graphics and Taylor Wall worked for the announced prize money, but think about the FOSS (Free Open Source Sofware) developers, who pays them? what movitates them to work? Anyways the concept of ‘OpenIdeas’ is a derivation from the ‘OSS’ community. Lets praise their thoughts. ‘Open ur ideas. Open to ideas.’ Think about it.
Prof. George L. Hart, Chair in Tamil Studies from University of California, Berkeley writes why Tamil should be given Classical Language Status:
Tamil is of considerable antiquity.
Constitutes the only literary tradition indigenous to India that is not derived from Sanskrit.
The subtlety and profundity of Tamil Litreature works and their varied scope fits well to stand as one of the great classical traditions and literatures of the world.
One of the primary independent sources of modern Indian culture and tradition.
Tamil is the most conservative of the Dravidian languages, the touchstone that linguists must consult to understand the nature and development of Dravidian.
The Central government had already recognized Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian as classical langs. Wonder how Arabic and Persian came to India. Do we need something more to convince them? More at tamil.berkeley.edu
